Brian F. Schaffner

I am the Newhouse Professor of Civic Studies in the Department of Political Science and Tisch College at Tufts University. My research focuses on public opinion, campaigns and elections, political parties, and race and prejudice in American politics. I direct the Tufts Public Opinion Lab and co-lead the Cooperative Election Study.

I am co-author of books on local politics, campaign finance, and political polarization during the Trump era (see Books). My work has been published in the American Political Science Review, American Journal of Political Science, Journal of Politics, British Journal of Political Science, Public Opinion Quarterly, and other leading journals.

I write regularly for Good Authority (the successor to The Washington Post’s Monkey Cage). See my recent posts and other public-facing writing.
